So you’ve got yourself a high quality blog design and lots of content but still no visitors. This step is where most bloggers fail as they don’t receive any visitors, and they quickly lose motivation to continue writing. If you want to make money blogging you need to ensure your actively promoting your new blog online. There are many good bloggers out there, that no one knows about as they haven’t promoted themselves.
The number one rule about promoting your blog is to get out there and tell everyone about your blog.
If you don’t want to promote your blog, then you can always outsource these tasks to a virtual assistant on websites such as Fiverr.
So how do you promote your blog? Here are some of my best free promotion methods.
1. Blog Commenting On Other Blogs
Most blogs allow you to leave a comment with your name, email and web address back to your blog. You can read blogs that are interesting and related to your blog and then leave a comment that is helpful to the blogger or other visitors with your web address. Depending on how much traffic they receive you’ll likely get some visitors in return too.
Please be sensible with this method, adding 7 word comments to all the blog posts on someones website will get your name out there for all the wrong reasons. You should keep your comments to 1 or 2 posts per website every couple of months.
Making useful comments is a good way to ensure visitors trust you before they click through to your website.
2. Link Exchange
One of the best ways to get free traffic is to link to other blogs and articles and then ask them to link back to your site in a similar article. You can use the template below for an example on what to say to them via email or using their contact form on the website.
Some other bloggers will ignore you, others will decline your offer but a small number will be more than willing to help you out too.
3. Social Networks
Make sure you post your blog on your social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. You’d be surprised how much traffic my blogs receive from a web address in my Instagram profiles and I only have a few thousand followers. When you post something new on your blog, be sure to update all your social media accounts.
This will help you connect with other people and bloggers that are interested in your topic. Send friend requests to the top bloggers in your niche (if you can find them) and send them a message when you post something that might interest them. You’ll be surprised how many fellow bloggers will help you out with free traffic.
Similar to blog commenting, spamming on social networks will quickly get your blog banned from future posts.
4. Guest Posts
This is one of my favorite ways to get free traffic. You’ll find a blog that offers guest posts, where you’ll write an article with some photos and they’ll add it to their website. In return you’ll get a link back to your website. I’ve seen beginner bloggers get featured for news sites such as Huffington Post and DailyMail which can send millions of visitors to a website within a couple of days.
A good way to find sites that offer guest posts is to use Google Search by using the following search term.
If you create a guest post, ensure the content is absolutely amazing and well edited.
5. Online Forums
Another popular way to drive free traffic is to join forums related to your topic. For exmaple if your blog is about sports then joining a forum that is popular with motorcycle enthusiasts would be a good place to start. Once you’ve created a free account you can usually add a link in your ‘signature’ that is attached to any posts you make.
The best way to get started is to make helpful posts on the forums and then start recommending your blog in future posts. Similar to blog commenting you need to ensure your posts are high quality and aren’t treated like spam. If you can built trust between you and other members they are much more likely to click through to your website.
Now that you’ve created your blog, added content and started to drive free traffic, the next step is to start making money from your blog. Some bloggers might not want to make money and as such this is the end of the goal.
