“How Do I Start A Blog?”
TheBlogCreator.com will show you how with our FREE, easy to follow and step by step tutorial.
Starting your own blog doesn’t need to be expensive or complicated. Gone are the days of paying a web designer thousands of dollars to get started. Nowadays people are starting their own blogs every day. It seems that nearly everyone has their own blog these days.
Most people have no idea where to get started. Starting a blog can be intimidating, especially if you don’t have the required technological skills. Adding to this is the number of different options available for starting a blog that makes things even more confusing.
The good news is that we’ve created this free step-by-step guide on the entire process which will help remove any confusion from the process. If you’ve got basic computer skills then you can have your own blog ready to in less than 20 minutes.
Why Should You Use My Guide?
My name is Rhys Lewis and I’m going to be your ‘tour’ guide on this journey to creating a successful blog. I’ve been building websites and blogs for the last 12 years and in that time I’ve launched dozens of my own blogs and helped thousands of others to do the same.
I’ve discovered that becoming a successful blogger comes down to three key factors:
1. Creating Blog Correctly
I’m going to show you exactly how to start a blog using the WordPress blog platform, which can be used from any device including computer, tablet and smartphone. WordPress is one of the most popular blogging platforms on the planet and in this step-by-step guide I’m going to show you exactly how to create a blog and configure WordPress correctly.
2. Write About Topics That Interest You
Blogging is about sharing your knowledge with others so choosing a topic that interests you is very important. If your not passionate about the topic then your going to get bored very quickly before your blog becomes a success.
3. Learn From Others
The last factor is that you should learn from others and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Over the last 12 years I’ve made many mistakes and with this guide I’ll share my experiences with you so you hopefully won’t make the same mistakes. Sometimes though, that’s all part of the fun of creating your own blog.
Why You Should Start A Blog?
Starting a blog doesn’t need to be costly or difficult, In fact the entire process comes down to these four steps:
The internet is more accessible than ever before with millions of people getting access to computers and internet connectivity every week. The explosion in web traffic means more potential visitors and readers to your blog. By starting your own blog, you can expect the following benefits:
The most important and number one reason why so many people start their own blogs is because it’s fun. You can share your own knowledge with others through writing, pictures, videos, info-graphics and forums on your own blog. Blogging gives you satisfaction knowing your sharing your ideas with like minded people.
Blogging can earn you money if done correctly. There are many top bloggers around the world that are making a full time living through blogging. Imagine waking up and writing a few articles and then spending the rest of the day doing things you want to do. While making enough to live off requires lots of work, part time bloggers can expect to make a decent profit if things are done correctly (I’ll show you how!).
Having a successful blog can help you get good recognition in your respective field and may lead to other opportunities. For example if you were a travel blogger tour companies may reach out to you and ask you to review their services in return for a free holiday. If you are an expert in your field and attract lots of visitors, you can expect recognition from other businesses rather quickly.
Why You Should Never Use Free Blogs
If your new to blogging then you’ll notice you have the option of setting up a free blog on some websites such as Wix or Tumblr. While this sounds like a great idea (especially if your low on cash) but there are many downsides to using a free blog site:
Problem 1: There’s no such thing as FREE.
The first major problem that most free blog sites cause is that they exist to make money for themselves using your hard work. They make money in multiple ways:
They sell your ad space
Free blog sites will put their own ads on your blog and you’ll have absolutely no way to stop them. Adding to this, you’ll have no control over the ads they are showing. If you’ve got a beauty blog and they are showing ‘Automotive offers’ to your visitors then your readers are going to get confused rather quickly. Lastly, you won’t see a cent of the money they receive from advertising on your blog.
They sell you upgrades
Although the service starts for free you’ll eventually discover that to make any major changes to your blog you’ll have to pay. If you want to add your own domain (.com, .net etc) or change the theme then you’ll have to pay more. Run out of space for photos? $50 extra per year. Want to remove those annoying ads? $100 extra per year.
Problem 2: No control
When you start a free blog you are renting your blog space and you have no control over what the ‘landlord’ decides to do. If they go bankrupt then you’ll likely lose your website and all your hard work instantly. In other cases I’ve seen bloggers have their websites terminated overnight because they posted something they shouldn’t. They may hike the price up without notice and you’ll have to other option but to pay more.
If they decide to remove your website, there is absolutely nothing you can do about it, since you don’t actually own the blog.
To make things even more difficult, free blog sites don’t actually give you access to the feature you need to become a successful blogger, such as Search Engine Optimization (SEO) features. In this step by step guide I will show you many cool ways to optimize your blog, which unfortunately can’t be done on a free blog.
Problem 3: No profit
The reason free blog sites make so much money is because they restrict what you can and can’t do on your own free blog. This means your not allowed to sell your own products or services through your free blog. As mentioned earlier, they will put their own ads on your blog and take all the revenue for themselves. As you’ll find out in my step-by-step guide, selling ad space is a major source of income for most blogs and choosing suitable ads is even more important.
Problem 4: Limited security
Hackers are always a threat to your website but free blog sites often host millions of websites and should they become hacked you’ll have to wait until the free blog provider restores access to your site. If they take a week or two then you’ll have to wait, there’s nothing you can do about this. Alternatively if your own free blog is hacked you may never be able to get your blog back again.
I recommend you stay well away from free blogging sites. It just isn’t worth the risk or headaches after spending so much time on your blog.
Paying for your own blog can prevent all of these issues, and is actually quite affordable and in the long term will work out much cheaper as there isn’t a bunch of hidden fees. In this tutorial I’ll show you how you can get started for less than the cost of a coffee each month ($4/month).
